On Friday, Delhi Power Minister Atishi accused Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of stalling the extension of power subsidies to nearly 46 lakh people in the national capital, claiming that subsidies would cease from April 15. She alleged that the LG office had not approved the file to extend the subsidy to consumers, despite the Delhi Cabinet having already approved the extension of power subsidies for the year 2023-24. Atishi said that she had sought a meeting with Saxena over the issue but had not received a response. In response, the Lt-Governor's office stated that the power subsidy extension for the year 2023-24 had been approved and accused Atishi of levelling false allegations. The subsidy provides free electricity to consumers with a monthly consumption of 200 units, while those consuming between 201 and 400 units receive a 50% subsidy capped at Rs 850. The tussle over power subsidies between the Delhi government and the Lt-Governor's office is the latest in a string of disagreements between the two entities. The Delhi government has accused the LG of stalling several files and creating hurdles in the functioning of the elected government. The LG, on the other hand, has maintained that he is acting within the limits of his powers as defined by the Constitution. The issue of power subsidies in Delhi has been a contentious one, with the AAP government consistently advocating for free or highly-subsidized electricity for consumers. While the move has been popular with voters, it has also faced criticism from some quarters who argue that it is financially unsustainable in the long run. In this particular case, it is unclear why there was a delay in approving the extension of power subsidies. The LG's office has accused the Delhi government of political posturing and attempting to mislead the public with false allegations. The Delhi government, on the other hand, has accused the LG of stalling files and creating hurdles in the functioning of the elected government. It remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and whether power subsidies will continue to be extended to consumers in Delhi. #delhi #delhielectricity #subsidyonelectricity #subsidy #atishi #vinaykumarsaxena #delhilg #delhinews #electricitybill #electricity Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: / timesofindia Instagram: / timesofindia Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: / timesofindiaplus Twitter: / toiplus Instagram: / toi_plus
