How to Mentally Prepare for Lumbar Disc Replacement (What to Expect) | Dr. Todd Lanman

When mentally preparing for a lumbar ADR surgery, you want to have a good vision of the surgery so you feel confident in the surgery and the surgeon.   Here’s a quick rundown of what happens, taking about ~1 hr per disc: 1️⃣ The surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen, avoiding and going in-between the ab muscles and around the intestinal cavity. 2️⃣ Once the spine is clear, the vascular surgeon moves the blood vessels to the side. 3️⃣ The surgeon then cleans out the disc and places the new artificial disc into its place. 4️⃣ Once everything’s complete, everything falls back into its proper place and the surgeon stitches up the fascia and skin.
