Cuckoo Marans: The Marans is a breed of chicken originating in France. It is a medium breed compared to others, popular for poultry shows and is a dual purpose fowl known both for its extremely dark eggs as well as for its very fine meat qualities. Blue Andalusian: The Andalusian is a breed of chicken originating in the Andalucia region of Spain. Often called the Blue Andalusian for the color accepted for showing by the American Poultry Association, they also appear in Splash (mottled) and Black. They are classified as "Mediterranean" chickens, and like other breeds from this class, they are closely feathered, active, and good layers of white eggs. Although the only color pattern recognized by the American Poultry Association is Blue, when you cross two blues you will get some whites and some blacks. Because of this, they are relatively rare except amongst poultry enthusiasts and small backyard flock owners interested in preserving heritage breeds. These rare egg laying chickens lay up to 160 eggs per year. Silver Leghorn: The hackle and saddle feathers of a Silver Duckwing Leghorn cock are pure silvery white, with out the slightest straw or creamy tinge, with a narrow black stripe along the center of the lower hackle feathers. Back, saddle, wing bow and wing bay pure white; breast, under-parts, wing bar, and tail, dense lustrous black. The Silver Duckwing Leghorn hen has a silvery gray hackle, with a narrow black stripe through the center of each feather. The breast is light salmon, shading off to gray toward the sides; the body color when viewed at a short distance should appear gray with a faint bluish tint all over. A tendency to ruddy gray, either in ground color or penciling, is objectionable. The tail is black or dark brown, except the two upper feathers, which are light tray. The penciling or markings are irregular or wavy. Egyptian Fayoumi: The Fayoumi is a breed of chicken originating in Egypt. Fayoumis are a very old breed in their native region, and are named for the Faiyum Governorate southwest of Cairo and west of the Nile. Representations and descriptions of domestic fowl first appear during Egypt's New Kingdom. King Tutankhamen had pet Sri Lanka Junglefowl procured through the ancient cinnamon trade. Fayoumi chickens are believed to be descendants of junglefowl hybrids with domestic fowl that have adapted for life in thorn palm forests and marshes in Egypt ~ 3,000 years ago. They have been present in the West since at least the 1940s, when they were imported from Egypt by an Iowa State University Dean of Agriculture. However, they are not officially recognized for exhibition by the American Poultry Association, and are not included in the Standard of Perfection. Blue Andalusian: These beautiful blue fowl originated in Andalusia, a province of Spain, but have long been known in England and the United States. They are magnificent to look at with their graceful, stately carriage and delicately blue-laced plumage; and this marks them as an especially fine breed for exhibition. The ideal feather color is a beautiful slatey blue with a narrow lacing of darker blue. The male has a cape of lustrous blue-black, sometimes shading almost to a dove gray, and feathers from this are fine material for tying artificial flies. Skin color is white and shanks and toes are a leaden blue. Andalusian hens are fine layers of white or slightly tinted eggs with very little tendency towards broodiness. Buttercup: The Sicilian Buttercup is a breed of domestic chicken from the island of Sicily. The breed was imported to the United States in the 19th century, and to Britain and Australia early in the 20th century. It derives from the indigenous Siciliana breed of Sicily, but long separation from the original stock has led to marked differences between the two. Dominique: The Dominique, also known as Dominicker or Pilgrim Fowl, is a breed of chicken (Gallus gallus) originating in the United States during the Colonial. Dominiques are a dual purpose breed, being valued for their meat as well as for their brown eggs. They weigh 6 to 8 pounds (2.7 to 3.6 kg) at maturity. In earlier times, their feathers were much sought after as stuffing for pillows and mattresses. Silver Penciled Rock: Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rocks are a beautiful variety with colourful males and intricately marked females, that requires double-mating to achieve perfection. Buff Orpington: The Orpington is a breed of chicken named after Orpington, England, which was made famous in part by this breed. Belonging to the English class of chickens, it was bred to be an excellent layer with good meat quality. Red Star: Sex-links or Red Stars are cross-bred chickens whose color at hatching is differentiated by sex, thus making chick sexing an easier process. Sex-links come in many varieties, few of which are a true breed.
