York City finally ended an eight-match streak without a win by defeating Carlisle United 2-0 at Bootham Crescent to give their supporters something to cheer at last. New signing Darren Tilley was promoted to the starting line-up and had an impressive debut. However, it could all have been quite different if United’s Dean Walling had taken the good chance that came his way early in the game. But it was York who came up trumps, despite Tilley having a first half effort disallowed by the linesmen, and in the second half scored two excellent goals. First, Tony Barratt connected with Jon McCarthy’s flick on to lob home in great fashion. Then, to double York’s advantage, it was Barratt again who drilled the ball into the net from the edge of the area. Wayne Hall almost extended the home side’s lead, but his shot cannoned off the far post. York City: Kiely, McMillan, Crosby, Reid, Tutill, Atkin, Barratt, McCarthy, Tilley, Hall, Canham.
