The ruthless wind howled, but the fire was my only source of warmth—the very reason my dog and I survived the night. Day Two: I climbed higher into the snowy forest and found a rocky spot among tall trees. I built a shelter and a makeshift bed to stay off the freezing ground and started a strong fire. The heat from the flames was everything on this brutally cold night—pure survival joy. Day Three: With no food left, I headed to a river to fish. I caught a wild grayling and built a wooden shelter nearby. Cooking the fish directly over the fire was a hard-earned reward.
