In this video , I try my luck at Oahu's south shore. Its had all the conditions that would have made it a great day on the water, EXCEPT for the huge swell coming from the South East. It was almost enough to make me want to cancel the trip early but with the bite time lasting until 9am I decided to stick around. I had some frozen opelu from past trips and really had my mind set on using dead bait primarily while I try out the Nitta Rig. I have heard pretty good things about them so I found some and they are pretty useful. They kept my dead baits from getting foul hooked and spinning causing more problems. With the early bite time I also didn't spend much time chasing after bait balls. I was fortunate to run across a few and get 1 opelu to bite. But the Nitta Rig produced for the day. I was able to land a 21# Wavy Back Tuna, the biggest one to date. Not too long after landing that fish, I ended up calling the end. The swell at this point was getting the best of me and I had enough torture for the day. I took my time and made my way back to the ramp. It was a good day overall, just really bumpy.
