Aloy allies with various factions and old friends to recover GAIA's subsystems—AETHER, DEMETER, and POSEIDON—and attempts to reintegrate HEPHAESTUS, the AI responsible for machine production. However, the Far Zeniths intervene, leading to a climactic battle where Aloy and her allies confront the Zeniths' true motives and the looming threat of Nemesis, a rogue AI entity bent on Earth's destruction. The game's expansion, Burning Shores, follows Aloy as she tracks the last surviving Zenith, Walter Londra, to the remnants of Los Angeles. There, she partners with Seyka, a Quen warrior, to thwart Londra's plan to escape Earth using a rocket that would devastate the region. Together, they confront Londra, leading to his defeat and the prevention of further catastrophe. Horizon Forbidden West was well-received for its expansive open world, engaging combat, and deepening of the series' lore, earning it a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022.
