Darren Andrews Odd Time Groove Generator 9/16

I used to be part of the Irish dance show Riverdance on Broadway New York as a drummer. In one of the Flamenco tunes, I was struggling to figure out what the time signature was in. However the only way I could count it was to count the rhythm out, which was 123a 123a 123a etc I later discovered this was in 7/16 and two measures or Bars of this was 7/8. Each count is worth two 16th's or an 8th notes. The skip notes are a single 16th note. So I then took this a step further and developed what I call an "Odd Time Groove Generator". (OTGG) So from this idea I thought what would be the count for something in 9/16. So I came up with an algorythm that works. ex. 9/16. 9-1=8, 8/2=4 The count is 1234a 1234a etc or shifting the skip note (a) within the count. example. 123a4 or 12a34 or 1a234. These skip notes (a) provide a great anchor point for grooves especially when there is more than one in a measure. Now this is only the starting point of this. Things get even more interesting when you get to larger uneven measures. 21/16 for example which I will be covering in Odd Time Signatures Part 2. 21-1=20; 20/2=10 so the count for this is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10a but most interesting thing of all is 2 skip notes = a single count. so now we can replace a count with 2 skip notes, Example; 1 2 3a 4 5 6 7a 8 9a. or 1 2 3 4a 5 6a 7 8a 9 etc. In Odd Time Signatures Part 2, I will show how to play these meters as very cool modern grooves with some interesting syncopation and displaced backbeats. I hope this is in some way informative. I would love to hear some feedback as this is something I developed about 3 years ago. I've heard great drummers play in Odd Times (meters) like Bill Bruford to Vinnie Colaiuta to Virgil Donati. Here I've tried to create a simple system so your mid level drummer can experiment with these patterns. I hope this serves a purpose. Please let me know.
