BOLTED CONNECTIONS in Steel Foundations

Bolted connections play an important role in the design of steel foundation systems. In general, bolted joint connections are designed on the basis of tension and shear and thus respectively called by name tension joints and shear joints. In the tension joint, the bolt and clamped components of the joint are designed to transfer an applied tension load through the joint, whereas the shear bolted joints transfers the applied load in shear of the bolt shank and relies on the shear strength of the bolt. But one thing i need to mention here is Tension loads may act on shear joints but are considered only incidental.
