A complete edition of the first movie review program featuring the Chicago Tribune's Gene Siskel and the Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert. NOTE: Downloaded from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). Contents: Opening credits Introduction, featuring clip from MELVIN & HOWARD Reviews: a. THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN, a Universal release. Gene finds it a rather horrendous enterprise; Roger doesn't care for it either, but feels it may appeal to younger audiences (both NO's). b. FORT APACHE: THE BRONX, a Time-Life Films release through 20th Century-Fox. Gene and Roger find Paul Newman wasted in an incredible test-of-patience as a police drama.(both NO's). c. Walt Disney Productions' THE DEVIL AND MAX DEVLIN, a Buena Vista release. Gene is able to report that this is the first Disney comedy he enjoyed in many years (voting YES); Roger does not believe it will appeal to much of anyone (voting NO). d. MELVIN AND HOWARD, a Universal release. Both men see this comedy-drama as a delightful and outstanding saga of the dark side of the American dream (both very strong YES's). e. HANGAR 18, a Schick Sunn Classic release . . . which Gene and Roger believe is totally moronic, as usual (both NO's). Dogs of the Week: a. Roger picks THE CAULDRON OF DEATH, which he suspects has been retitled and which he feels is totally ridiculous. b. Gene selects "11", an X-rated, pornographic ripoff of "10" that Gene finds is mostly predictable bump-and-grind sex, with "the only erotic moments [coming] at the very end."
