...I still feel like I can't believe this just happened tonight. After spending many hours practicing the end of this level and doing attempts over the past month or so, I finally got a shot at 32, and thankfully I was able to clutch it out! I feel like this is probably more of an accomplishment than my untied records in Spring Yard Zone Act 3 and Labyrinth Zone Act 1 honestly, even though I am not treading any new ground here, and merely matching what Tee-N-Tee achieved before me a little over a year ago now. As for the level itself, the beginning is pretty straightforward... just make sure to grab at least one of the rings near the start, and then there is a frame perfect jump that you can go for to save some time going down the waterfall if you want, but I personally opted to skip it, because it isn't necessary in order to get 32 on this level, and apparently is inconsistent since it sounds like the correct frame on which to jump has some variance. I really can't recommend anything in particular once you reach the cork for positioning yourself on the leftmost pixel within the very limited time that you have in order to do so. I just practiced a lot with a save state on my flash cart and tried to build up some muscle memory for that, as well as the timing for the subsequent right press, and the two frames that you can jump on as you are zipping. Assuming that you jump on either one of those two frames, you will end up in one of two different routes depending on which frame you jumped on, as well as potentially the duration of your jump and your y subpixel value if you jump on the later frame out of the two of them. In this run I was sent down to the dropdown route. There are guides covering the details of each route on speedrun.com, so I won't cover them again here, but will note that honestly I have no idea which is the better choice to shoot for... they are both RTA viable and statistically I believe you have a better chance of having acceptable subpixels to break through the waterfall in the top route, but I imagine that personal preference will also come into play as far as which route a given player finds to be easier to execute correctly. There are still several seconds potentially left on the table in this level. Various additional strats, most of which require specific ranges of subpixel values in order to be able to be executed, can theoretically be employed to bring the time down to 0:29 or possibly lower than that. I will not be doing that personally, at least not right now, since my focus at this point is mainly on learning the levels I haven't played yet. Shout out to Tee-N-Tee obviously for definitively proving that it was possible to achieve this time in the first place, as well as to DanielHall, Zurggriff, pho, JoeyBaby69, and probably other people I am forgetting, who all helped me in various ways to achieve this time! =3 Star Light Zone Acts 1 and 2 should be coming up very quickly, since I've actually already tied those records before but just was not recording, and then Star Light Zone Act 3 will probably become my focus. ^^
