The Scene - October 19, 2021 It's the Scene with Jane Slater! It was a tame week in the national top 25, with no upsets and several lopsided victories, so we're going to begin in the northwest... WAY northwest, in Alaska, where the first state football titles of the fall were decided. Lathrop High in Fairbanks, Alaska, took down eight-time-defending state champion Soldotna 33-20, to claim the Division 2 state title. Senior quarterback Jarren Littell led the way for Lathrop with six total touchdowns. A notable statistic in Utah... Corner Canyon quarterback and USC verbal commit Devin Brown has surpassed 3,000 yards passing for the season. This is notable because - according to MaxPreps - he is believed to be only the third high school quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in two different states… Brown also eclipsed that mark when he played at Queen Creek High School in Arizona... He currently leads the nation in passing yards. If you're curious: the record-holder for passing yards in two states? That would be Tua Tagovailoa's younger brother, Taulia, who is now at Maryland. Taulia had 6700yards passing in Hawaii, and then another 7200 in Alabama. In basketball, we're learning more about the highly-anticipated Overtime Elite, which is paying former high school stars to play in its league. O-T-E's 24 players have been divided into three teams, which will scrimmage against each other as well as play other teams in events around the country. The first event will be at the O.T.E. Arena in Atlanta on October 29, when the teams will host three schools, including Vertical Academy out of Charlotte, which features five-star 2023 prospect Mikey Williams. Now, to some fun on the gridiron - who needs a coin toss? In Illinois, Farmington and Elmwood-Brimfield settled the pregame routine with a round of rock-paper-scissors... Elmwood-Brimfield won the pregame contest, but Farmington won the game. On the east coast, the Oscar Smith Tigers of Chesapeake Bay may not just be the number one ranked team in Virginia, they may also have the greatest team entrance onto the gridiron in the nation. If you think your school's entrance beats the Tiger Cage let us know in the comments. In Texas, the 11th ranked Allen Eagles defeated 4th ranked Denton Guyer 38 to 31 to take control of its district… That called for some celebration… Associate Head Coach Will Bryant decided to do a little crowd surfing the the locker room… How does your team celebrate a big win? Post a video and tag us in it… Last, but certainly not least, in Kansas, Perry-Lecompton's Kael Gorski got a surprise as he took the field for his team's game against Hayden... His father, Master Sergeant Josh Gorski, who had been deployed for three months, was there waiting for him. Stay in the loop by following Sports Stars of Tomorrow on all of our social media channels.
