Various of winner of competition Milan Mihailovic STORYLINE Residents at the small Serbian village of Mokrin held their annual egg cracking festival to mark Orthodox Christian Easter on Sunday. The competition, now in its 25th year, is held every Easter Sunday. Competitors pair up with an egg each and try to crack one against the other, with the winner taking the broken egg and going on to challenge other winners. Hundreds turn out to watch, some travelling many miles. Almost the whole village takes part, from schoolchildren to grandparents. The winner of Sunday's competition said he was well-prepared for victory this year. According to the Orthodox tradition, during the Easter week people paint eggs and present them to each other as an Easter symbol of the re-birth as Jesus Christ rose from the dead after his crucifixion.
