Santiago Comaltepec, Oaxaca and its Fog Waterfall

This video transports you to Santiago Comaltepec, a Chinantec village in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, home to the spectacular Cascada de Niebla ecotourism center. Cascada de Niebla, Sierra Norte of Oaxaca Origin of the Name: It's called this because, on windy days, the fog descends the mountains, mimicking the sound of a waterfall [03:03]. Height: The main waterfall has an impressive drop of 53 meters [05:42]. Suspension Bridge: To reach it, you cross a wooden suspension bridge about 30 meters long, located approximately 20 meters above the stream [01:34]. Access: The entrance fee is $100 pesos per person and includes a guide who accompanies you on the tour [03:43]. Nature and Fauna Mesophilic Forest: The area is a very dense cloud forest (mesophilic), with pines, oaks, and a large amount of moss [01:59]. Wildlife: Being a transition zone to the rainforest, it is home to animals such as jaguars, pumas, ocelots, wild boars, and deer [04:01]. There are even signs with instructions on what to do in case of an encounter with these felines [02:07]. Culture and Gastronomy Identity: The inhabitants are proudly Chinantec, and the town is located at an altitude of approximately 2,800 meters [06:32]. Traditional Food: The traditional dish is beef stew with smoked or sun-dried meat [06:56]. The patron saint festival is celebrated on July 24th and 25th. Viewpoints and Activities Hiking: You can climb the side rocks to get almost to the waterfall and feel the spray up close [10:14]. The Viewpoint: At the top (kilometer 108 of the highway) there is a restaurant and a viewpoint with spectacular views that, on clear days, allow you to see towards Valle Nacional and the Tuxtepec area [15:02]. It is an ideal destination for those looking for mountain hiking, fresh air, and landscapes that seem straight out of a movie, just 3 hours from the city of Oaxaca. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW ME on Social Media =) Instagram:   / lenin_pineda_c   Facebook:   / leninpinedac   TikTok:   / lenin_pineda_c   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ME: I'm Lenin Pineda, passionate about nature travel and creating videos.
