His crown was a straw boater hat, his scepter the base of a microphone. King of the music hall, Maurice Chevalier, whose smile overshadowed the spotlights and who sang from the heart, left us in 1972. Maurice Chevalier's life is fascinating for many reasons. First, because it is intertwined with that of France for almost a century. Who doesn't remember his hits, among which we should recall "Ça fait d'actifs Français" and "Ça sent si bon la France"? Let us remember, if necessary, that the unforgettable creator of "Prosper" and "Ma Pomme" was and remains today, throughout the world and nearly 35 years after his death, the symbol of the cheeky Parisian. Throughout the world, and perhaps even more so in the United States. This program reveals that Chevalier always had a smile on his face and a heart of gold. A heart of eternal street urchin, which, though punctuating daily life with the optimism of despair, was nonetheless that of an exceptional purveyor of happiness.
