THE FORGOTTEN PRODIGY: Korleone Young Made The WRONG Choice! Stunted Growth
Today’s feature is a player that weighed his entire future on one decision made by a deep desire to meet the goal he set and an all important blessing from his mother. The name Korleone Young may not be a familiar one to you or your basketball circle, but in the NBA world his name was instrumental in the league adjusting its age limit for ammeter players. Not every player with a dream to play in the NBA can be a Kobe Bryant or a Kevin Garnet much less a Rashard Lewis. Along the journey they’ll be casualties for many reasons and many end up like Leon Smith, Ndudi Ebi, Lenny Cooke and Korleone Young. Young was drafted into the NBA in 1998, but only played in 3 games for a total of 15 minutes. Before making the decision to enter the NBA Draft, he was even called personally by David Stern, who advised it wasn’t a good idea and maybe he should take the college route. By all accounts Young was a can’t miss prospect. One’s like Korleone Young can spend the rest of their lives running from the failure of not amounting to the expectations had for them and take away the lesson their life’s story is supposed to be for the ones to come after. I don’t see Korleone Young as a failure in life. We all have our journey and what we consider a win that’ll bring us peace. Some like Kobe Bryant a win was needed again and again until he couldn’t any longer. But to Korleone Young, he just wanted to say he achieved his dream. He made it to the NBA, but for these reasons that 15 minutes was a gas station stop along his journey and his growth was prematurely stunted.
