Sudan Conflict: Thousands Flee To Chad, South Sudan Amid Lack Of Food, Water, Power And Medical Aid

Thousands of civilians have fled and many are attempting to flee Sudan and the capital Khartoum, on foot on by car, amid fierce fighting between forces of two rival generals to take control of the country. However, these attempts to flee have proved dangerous given the erratic ceasefire between the two warring forces leaving over 300 people dead and thousands injured. On April 21, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary force led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire for Eid, there has been no word from the Sudanese army yet. Even during the ceasefire agreed to by both parties, several reports emerged of continued fighting between the army and the RSF. Amid the chaos, those who are left behind are facing acute shortages of water, electricity, fuel and food. Foreign nations with citizens stuck in Sudan are struggling to evacuate them amid attacks on Khartoum International Airport. Medical services have also witnessed a breakdown with at least 39 out of the 59 major hospitals in Sudan being out of service, as per a New York Times report.
