AMC AMX "The Deuce" we begin ANOTHER AMC Spirit AMX build! Step 1, inspect and disassemble it!
We're officially going down the rabbit hole on these AMC AMX projects and starting the second build! Most people would never imagine building one of these things, much less two of these but we are just that kind of crazy. So welcome everyone to the "The Deuce" our next 1979 AMC Spirit AMX build! Now what do we have here? Well it's a 79 AMC Spirit AMX, think of it essentially as an AMC Gremlin but with a bit more room and a bit cooler looking. These cars are cool odd little pieces of American automotive history and really the last gasp of the American Motor Corporation when it comes to fun cars. Rear wheel drive, Manual Transmission, AND a 304 V8 under the hood! Well, unfortunately it's NOT a 304 under the hood of this car at some point in it's not too distant past someone replaced the AMC V8 with a small block Chevy... and not even a GOOD SBC it's got a 305!? WHY!? Now yes the 305 is a piece of junk and unfortunate to find under the hood of this car, however the great news is that behind it is bolted a T5 transmission from a Chevy S10 and THAT is something we actually need! As long as that transmission is in good condition it should be a perfect candidate for a swap into the '65 C10 shop truck replacing the Saginaw 4 speed. So in today's video we're getting our first looks under the hood and under the body of this car we recently picked up, time to judge whether or not our initial plans for a full build make sense. IS it truly a rust free car? Is it buildable? Or is it going to be a cobbled together nightmare we're going to have way to much money and time in for something that's worth... well not a lot.
