The RE: Code Veronica Remake We Never Got (2001 Concept)

A speculative re-imagining inspired by Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Rebuilt as a grounded, live-action techno-horror epic. --- - - The year is 20XX, and Claire Redfield pays a visit to her brother's grave. She reminisces about a fateful day that proved her brother's undying loyalty. Flash back to 1998. As the world sinks into biological warfare and secret operations, Claire searches for Chris. Her investigation leads her to a European Umbrella base, where she is captured and transported to Rockfort Island, a private military compound ruled by the eccentric and aristocratic Ashford family. Soon after her arrival, a mysterious attack devastates the island, releasing the T-Virus across the compound. Claire escapes amid the chaos and teams up with Steve Burnside, another young prisoner with a troubled past. Pursued by Alfred Ashford, whose fractured psyche splits between identities of brother and “sister”, Claire and Steve attempt to flee the island, ultimately leading them to the frozen Antarctica Base, where the truth comes to light: Alexia Ashford is alive, having placed herself in a decades-long cryogenic sleep to bond with the T-Veronica virus, a genetic mutation far more advanced than the tyrant programs. Meanwhile, Claire’s distress signal reaches Chris, who travels to Rockfort in a desperate attempt to rescue her. --- - - I first played Resident Evil: Code Veronica X on the PlayStation 2, not the Dreamcast. That PS2 copy shaped everything I remember about this story: the atmosphere, the weirdness, the gothic aesthetic, and of course… one of the series’ most twisted, theatrical villains. For everyone who played the original: What did you think of Code Veronica growing up? Did the monsters stick with you the same way? (I personally got stuck at the Tyrant fight and had to restart the whole game.) This project is part nostalgia, part experiment, and part love letter to a cult classic that never got the remake treatment... Or will it? I’d love to make more of these, not just RE, but anime-inspired cinematic trailers too. What should I tackle next? Drop your wildest ideas below. (I’m eyeing something with giant mecha) This trailer is based on my experience, reimagined as a live-action, cinematic style that reflects how it felt to play it back then. One of my favourite things about the franchise is its lore. We never truly got to see Umbrella Europe HQ in Paris, so what you see in the trailer are total figments of my imagination. We subconsciously know the demise of Umbrella was revelatory and disastrous for geo politics. So maybe this video could tease us into making our own head cannon.
