Em junho de 2015, um dentista americano virou assunto nos jornais e redes sociais por ter matado brutalmente Cecil, um leão dócil do Zimbábue. O caçador teria pago US$50.000 para poder matar Cecil. Alega-se que o leão foi atraído para longe de sua área de proteção e então atingido por uma flecha. Após aproximadamente 40 horas machucado, foi rastreado e morto com um rifle. Ele foi então esfolado e sua cabeça foi removida. Quando seu esqueleto sem cabeça foi encontrado por investigadores, seu colar de rastreamento estava desaparecido. The hunter reportedly paid US$50,000 to kill Cecil. The lion was allegedly lured out of his sanctuary and then wounded by an arrow. After about 40 hours he was tracked and killed with a rifle. He was then skinned and his head was removed. When his headless skeleton was found by park investigators, his tracking collar was missing.
