Everything you need to know about the Rarity of the Black Lotus in 2 Minutes
The years 1993. Jurassic Park is top of the box office, appartheid has ended in South Africa, and It's the release of Magic The Gatherings very first sets Alpha, and Beta. The original sets had a massive set of 295 cards. This is broken down into 116 Rares, 85 uncommons, and 74 common cards. Among the rares are powerful staples like the Original Mox's, Timetwister, and Time Walk. But no card is as powerful, nor as expensive as the Black Lotus, which is udoubtably the most iconic card from Magic. The Black Lotus is part of Magic Power 9. The Power 9 consists of - Mox Pearl Mox Sapphire Mox Jet Mox Ruby Mox Emerald Timewalk Timetwister Ancestral Recall and ofcourse Black Lotus These cards are so powerful in play, that Wizards of the Coast vowed to never print cards like them ever again. Black Lotus has been printed three times in Main sets, but it also has 2 printings in the Collectors edition. The print runs for each version of the card has been disclosed publicly, and the rarest are The Alpha with 1,100 copies, and Beta with 3000 copies. However, something to consider is the potential rarity of the Collectors edition version.. This card had a gold back, and it was quite common for people to switch the back, cut the corners to create a version that looked similar to Beta. Who knows how many of the 5000 cards there are left in good condition. Alpha's Black Lotus has been looked at by many collectors as a storage of value, and the card has outperformed the Stock Market since the card's printing. The Value at current time for the Alpha Black Lotus is $350,000. That is a lot of dough. The excitement people have about this card is understandable.
