Ex-HOA property manager arrested in Martin County in alleged six-figure embezzlement scheme
A former South Florida property manager accused of stealing nearly $200,000 from homeowners' associations to fund a lavish lifestyle was booked into the Martin County Jail early Thursday morning, jail records show. Alexandra Delacaridad Gonzalez, 46, of Miramar, turned herself in shortly after 2 a.m. April 9 by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. She is now facing 124 felony charges, including multiple first-degree counts of fraud and grand theft, after authorities say she carried out a wide-ranging embezzlement scheme while managing HOA finances. The arrest comes days after Gonzalez was publicly identified as a suspect and considered on the run. Investigators had previously issued a warrant for her arrest, warning that she may have been traveling between the Miramar and Vero Beach areas. According to investigators, Gonzalez worked as a property manager and bookkeeper for AvantGarde Property Management and had access to multiple homeowners' association bank accounts. Detectives allege she systematically stole money by writing checks to herself, creating fictitious invoices, falsifying financial ledgers, and forging signatures to make the transactions appear legitimate. Authorities say the alleged victims include the Whitemarsh Reserve Homeowners Association in Stuart and The Dunes of Hutchinson Island, though investigators believe additional associations may also have been impacted. In response to this case, multiple HOAs are now conducting internal financial audits to ensure the integrity of their accounts and to prevent similar incidents, according to MCSO.
