Security Looms Large Amid Holiday Travel

(22 Nov 2017) Holiday travellers in New York weighed in about fears over terrorism on Wednesday, less than a month after a deadly truck attack in lower Manhattan. Wednesday is one of the biggest travel days of the year in the United States - one day ahead of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Some said it was a big concern, while others said they can't let the fear of an attack change their routines. "You gotta keep living your life, no matter what is going on, and it's not going to stop me from going where I want to go," said Bridget Casey, who was traveling by train from New York City to Rochester, New York Wednesday. "I don't let that kind of thing bother me generally, and there's a lot of security around today," said William Conway as he got set to head from New York to Washington. Others felt differently, however, saying terrorism was a big concern. "Of course, it is. Somebody left a backpack unattended on the train, and I was a bit worried, but they were just eating, so, but yeah, it is on my mind," said Yvette Isler, who took the train to New York with her family and is planning to attend the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Security for the annual parade will once again be tight, especially since it comes just weeks after the deadly truck attack in lower Manhattan that left eight people dead, and others injured. Meanwhile, good weather kept air traffic moving smoothly at Reagan National Airport outside Washington.
