It occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. A stroke is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention. 🔍 Types of Stroke (CVA) 1. Ischemic Stroke (≈ 87% of all strokes) Caused by a blockage in an artery supplying blood to the brain. Often due to: Thrombosis (clot forms in the brain) Embolism (clot travels from elsewhere, e.g., the heart) 2. Hemorrhagic Stroke Caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain, leading to bleeding. Common causes: High blood pressure Aneurysm Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) 3. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) – “Mini-stroke” Temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain Symptoms resolve within 24 hours A warning sign of a future stroke ⚠️ Symptoms of a Stroke (FAST) Use the FAST acronym to remember warning signs: Face drooping Arm weakness Speech difficulty Time to call emergency services Other possible symptoms: Sudden numbness (especially on one side) Sudden confusion or trouble understanding Sudden trouble seeing Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance Severe headache with no known cause 🧠 Risk Factors Non-modifiable: Age Family history Gender (men have higher risk; women may have worse outcomes) Race (e.g., African Americans have a higher risk) Modifiable: High blood pressure (most significant risk) Diabetes Smoking High cholesterol Atrial fibrillation Obesity Physical inactivity Alcohol and drug abuse 🏥 Treatment Ischemic stroke: tPA (tissue plasminogen activator): clot-busting drug (within 3–4.5 hours) Mechanical thrombectomy: clot removal (in certain cases) Hemorrhagic stroke: Control bleeding and pressure Surgery to repair blood vessels or relieve pressure TIA: Antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications Addressing underlying risk factors 🔄 Recovery and Rehabilitation Physical therapy (movement, strength) Occupational therapy (daily tasks) Speech therapy Psychological support (depression, cognitive challenges) Hagtag - 🔖 Popular Hashtags for Cerebral Vascular Accident (Stroke): 💡 General Awareness #StrokeAwareness #CVA #CerebralVascularAccident #Stroke #StrokeRecovery #StrokeSurvivor #StrokeSupport #StrokePrevention #ActFAST #BrainAttack 💪 Recovery & Survivors #StrokeWarrior #StrokeLife #StrokeJourney #LifeAfterStroke #StrokeStrong #StrokeHealing 🧠 Medical / Educational #NeuroHealth #BrainHealth #Neurology #StrokeRehab #tPA #IschemicStroke #HemorrhagicStroke #TIA 🎗️ Advocacy & Events #WorldStrokeDay (October 29) #StrokeMonth (May in the U.S.) #StrokeAwarenessMonth #StopStroke #medical_professional_terms #medical_surgical_nursing #msn #by_pooja_chauhan #pooja_mam #norcet #norcet_preparations #Rrbexams #dsssb #esic #upscexamspreparation #kgmubscnursing #Rmlexampreprations Theory_Classes_Medical_professional_terms #pooja_mam
