Demolition of the Royal Canberra Hospital in 1997. Charges were incorrectly set and shrapnel flew high into the air and landed in the lake. Huge chunks narrowly missed spectators in small boats and on the far shore. Tragically, a young girl was killed in a freak accident when a chunk of metal flying at ballistic speed struck her. This video was submitted to the board of inquiry in 1997 and has now been uploaded for the first time. Here is the slow motion of the fatal explosion. Chunks of concrete and steel can be seen flying through the air.
