First-St. Andrew's United Church Worship Service - February 23, 2025

First-St. Andrew's United Church Worship Service - February 23, 2025

Welcome to worship at First-St. Andrew's United Church in London, Ontario! We are pleased to present this live-stream worship service on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The service will begin at 10:30am. The month of February is observed within the United Church of Canada as Black History Month, a celebration marked annually in North America by recognizing the contributions of the African diaspora. In our worship services this month, such observance takes two forms: through our prayer and proclamation – the spoken word – and through music, both instrumental and vocal. On this final Sunday of Black History Month, our focus is on justice. Rev. Dr. Joshua Lawrence, our Minister of Worship & Congregational Life, will preach a sermon entitled "May Justice Prevail…Over Me?” It is based today's reading from the Psalms, Psalm 7 verses 1-8 and 14-17 which will be read by Paul Cooper. Our Gospel reading is Luke 7: 36-50. In celebration of Black History Month, Minister of Music, Chris Fischer, has chosen works by Black composers for today's Gathering and Sending Music. Our Laudamus Bells will play an arrangement of Andrae Crouch's "Soon and Very Soon," by Hart Morris for the Musical Reflection and our Choir will sing Arvo Pärt's "The Woman with the Alabaster Box" for our Musical Offering. Today's congregational hymns are VU #605 "Jesus, Teacher, Brave and Bold," VU #708 "My Lord, What a Morning," VU #592 "Come Now, You Blessed" and VU #688 "O Day of God, Draw Nigh."
