Welcome to chapter 13 within Psycho-Cybernetics. In this video, we discuss: Strategies to help turn Crisis/Intense moments into Opportunities and We need Crisis and Intense moments in our lives. In life, we will come across crises and intense moments. Some of these moments will define us, some will be forgotten in time. What does not change is that these intense moments will always come up in our lives. Specifically, today, we are discussing the power of opportunity in Crisis. Not all opportunities in life come from good sources. In fact, a lot of life’s opportunities come during a crisis or through chaos. If we never train ourselves on how to show up in those intense chaotic events, we will miss out on many learning opportunities and some of these opportunities can shape our future. Strategies to help turn Crisis/Intense moments into Opportunities - The first strategy to help us overcome crisis opportunities is practice. We need to practice hundreds of times in low stress and high stress environments. When we practice relaxed and in pressure moments leading up to the event, it can allow us to resort to our muscle and mind memory to free up energy usage for when the real event occurs. Because we have such a repetition base, we can trust we will perform well during the intense moment. We also need opportunities that are high stakes to also practice. Gaining more exposure in these intense moments provides us an incredible amount of feedback for better or worse, for future crisis opportunities. The second tactic for us turning crisis into creative opportunity is twofold. The first piece is slowing things down. In pressure situations, our environment and our physical body will start to tense up. Over-stimulation/over motivation leads to interference with reasoning and logic. We can “feel” the pressure so to speak. When we feel pressure, we need to take a moment or a few moments to get into our breathing and slow down our heart rate. A quick subset to slowing our breath is also simplicity. As I just stated, when we get too fast, our mind tends to get complex and overwhelmed in thought. A way to combat that is to first slow our breath, then second to focus on one simple task or moment that will lead us to success. The second piece is our mindset. Once we have slowed things down and simplified our thinking, we must train ourselves to want to be in the moment. Taking it a step further into having a winning mindset is telling yourself you actually want to be in those intense moments. We need Crisis and Intense moments in our lives - We get comfortable in everyday life though, so if we are comfortable and unprepared, Crisis moments will reveal that we are weak and unwilling to do what it takes to win. When pursuing a goal, you intend to “go through” the crisis experience to achieve your goal. You have to commit when things get hard. Crisis brings up feelings of running away, hiding, forcing you to fight. If we do choose to fight, the crisis may help us release additional power to help you accomplish your goal. We are all born wanting to win. We must learn to embrace this, especially in times of crisis. Lastly, Don’t Mistake Excitement for Fear. Any normal person who is intelligent enough to understand life’s chaos or crisis moments knows that nerves come into play! Sometimes these nerves are actually excitement! When you reframe this, it may be a major factor that helps you out when you are in that pressure moment next time. You are not nervous, you are excited! The term “spirited” is a good one to use. The nervousness you feel before a crisis situation or intense situation can be reframed into spirited energy to want to perform well which is a net positive. It is all in how you manage and channel your emotions.
