After being amazed by the any% TAS, I was interested in trying to make a TAS of this game. I had an idea for an improvement in this level, so I TASed it. There are a few places where this TAS saves time over the previous TAS ( • [TAS] [Obsoleted] New Super Mario Bros. Wi... ): Qr1pt1k recently found that ground acceleration is faster as mini if the 1 button is not held until after getting 1.4 speed. This saves 5-6 frames depending on the level. In the previous TAS, Mario has to slow down before the second star coin so he can bounce off the koopa. I avoid this by grabbing a koopa from earlier in the level, making sure the shell doesn't collide with any enemies. This slows me down enough to where the second koopa jumped off of would not be enough to land on the ? block later, so I manipulated the camera to load in the second koopa 6 frames later than the earliest frame possible to make the koopa fall later. At the end of the raft section, I hit the koopa earlier, allowing me to collect the star coin sooner. I don't think this TAS can be improved much, as I have to wait at the end so the koopa on the pipe doesn't dance to the music.
