Wingsuit BASE Jumping a UNESCO World Heritage Site // Norway

This might be the most beautiful place I have ever seen with my own eyes. Geiranger fjord is a UNESCO World Heritage site with walls rising 1,400 meters straight out of the water. The hike up was tough but really fun. Basically straight vertical the whole way, with amazing views of the surrounding Norwegian mountains and valleys opening up the higher we got. Weather in Norway was spotty for most of our trip, but we found a window and it turned out beautiful. The best part of the day had nothing to do with jumping. My two best friends got engaged five minutes before we launched, right there at the exit point above the fjord. I was there the day they first met, so watching them grow as individuals, then as a couple, and now this, is truly special. I'd bet it's the first proposal ever done at that spot. I can't imagine the stress my friend was carrying up that hike. Ring in the pack, a wingsuit jump ahead of him, and a proposal on top of it. Kudos to him for keeping his composure! Now the flight. This one is a good example of why I love the crew I fly with. We had clouds forming in the bottom quarter of the line and couldn't see the LZ from the exit. So we waited and talked it out; What terrain is in the way if we punch through the cloud, do we have room above it, is there a version of this that works. We ended up with plenty of margin both above the cloud and straight through it, so we went. The exit is a bit visual and needs a subterminal left, but once you're flying it's a relatively straight shot to the landing zone. Easily one of my favorite flights I have ever done. I'm sharing that deliberation because it matters more than the flying does. You have seen me happily walk down before and I'll do it again without hesitation. The most important part of wingsuit BASE jumping is honest go/no go decision making. That's the thing that keeps you alive.
