NORTH KOREA CHRISTIAN ARRESTED and SENTENCED TO DEATH

Summary of Sung Ho Kim's Testimony The video is a personal account from a 27-year-old North Korean defector named Sung Ho Kim. He details his journey from being an indoctrinated university student in Pyongyang to finding Christianity and surviving a death sentence through what he describes as a miracle. The Spark of Faith Sung Ho's life was typical for a North Korean, revolving around worship of the state's leaders. This changed when his dying grandmother confessed a secret: their family was Christian, and his grandfather had died for his faith. This revelation planted a seed of curiosity, leading him on a dangerous, secret search for this hidden truth. Joining the Underground Church At university, he cautiously connected with a fellow student, Minjun, who introduced him to a small, secret group of Christians. He learned how they practiced their faith in extreme secrecy, primarily by memorizing entire chapters of the Bible to avoid the risk of being caught with a physical copy. Eventually, he was entrusted with one of the group's few shared copies of the New Testament for a few days at a time. Arrest and Death Sentence One day, during a surprise security check at his university, the hidden New Testament was discovered in his backpack. He was immediately arrested and taken to a detention centre. For three days, he was brutally interrogated and tortured but refused to betray the other members of his group. As a result, he was sentenced to death by firing squad. The Miraculous Execution On the morning of his execution, he was placed against a wall. A firing squad of six soldiers took aim. When the command to fire was given, all six rifles failed to discharge. A furious commander ordered a second attempt with six different rifles, but they also failed to fire. The officials, unnerved by this inexplicable event and viewing it as a bad omen, commuted his death sentence. Instead, he was sent to the infamous Camp 15, a brutal political prison camp, for a life of hard labor. Escape and Journey to Freedom After seven months of horrific conditions in the camp, an older prisoner and former border guard named Kwansu planned an escape. He had identified a brief window of opportunity during a change of guards. Together, they made a daring escape and began a perilous journey through the mountains toward the Chinese border. They survived for days with no food, navigating the harsh terrain until they finally reached and crossed the Tumen River into China. After connecting with a network of Christian aid workers, Sung Ho Kim was eventually granted asylum in the United States. He now lives in California, works with organizations that help North Korean refugees, and shares his testimony to spread a message of hope and God's power.
