Ants in the bee yard on organic farm - Diatomaceous earth
Head Beekeeper and Commercial Queen Breeder, Jose Uribe, begins by loading up a few pallets of singles from our facility and takes them to a new yard located in Butte County, California. These singles were previously nucs, cells builders, or queen banks that are now hives. While loading, Jose removed the hives from the bottom boards they are on and places them onto pallets from J&J Apiaries located in Riverdale, California. The colonies are being relocated to an organic farm called Morning Glory Organics. Upon placing the hives, Jose notices ants in the area of the yard and after speaking with the farm owner, Roger, he is given what is called Diatomaceous earth to sprinkle in the area. This is effective against any insect that has an exoskeleton, including fleas, mites, lice, ants, and millipedes to name a few. While at the farm, Jose chats with Roger about his adobe house that he is building by hand from the ground up. Nathan is also there and shares some upcoming crops being grown.
