The Port of Santorini: Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, Santorini is one of the most popular Cycladic islands and it can be approached either by plane or ferry. Its main port is widely known as Athinios or the New Port. It is located in the southwestern part of the island, at the foot of the caldera and it faces the volcanic islet Nea Kameni. Its location offers a quite impressive sight and as you approach the port from the sea side, you will notice that it is enclosed by massive rocks, with numerous whitewashed houses built above the cliffs. The port of Athinios is, in fact, considered one of the world’s most beautiful ports! During the high season (June to early September), the port can get overcrowded and occasional ferry delays may be inevitable, while traffic congestion in the port area may also be increased, so it is highly advised to allow some flexibility and arrange your plans accordingly.
