The police have arrested controversial televangelist James Ng’ang’a, who is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving. The pastor, who is accused of causing the death of Mercy Njeri in an accident in Limuru three and a half weeks ago, had sought to stop the charges preferred against him, but was arrested at the Milimani Law Courts and taken to CID headquarters. The accident, in which Mercy's husband Martin Ndung'u was seriously injured, occured when a 4-wheel-drive vehicle collided with the couple's car. Multiple witnesses said that the 4-wheel drive was being driven dangerously, and that it was on the wrong side of the road. Accusations of a police cover-up gained currency when Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet recommended further investigations, and in effect rejected the initial police reports which had sought to exonerate Ng'ang'a.
