Sara Gilbert stands by ABC's cancellation of 'Roseanne'

Sara Gilbert says its been a very difficult week since the network canned Roseanne following Barrs offensive social media tirade but the actress sees why ABC made the move.A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say Im proud of the show we made Gilbert said Monday on The Talk which she co-hosts. The show has always been about diversity love and inclusion and its sad to see it end in this way. Im sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However I do stand behind the decision that ABC made.ABC announced last week that it was canceling Roseanne hours after Barr called former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett the baby of muslim brotherhood planet of the apes in one tweet and posted a conspiracy theory claiming investor George Soros is a nazi.Gilbert who portrayed Darlene Conner and served as an executive producer on the sitcom shared a tweet condemning Barrs Twitter spiral shortly before the show was canceled calling it abhorrent. She also made it clear her co-stars remarks didnt reflect the views of anyone else associated with the show. This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us as weve created a show that we believe in are proud of and that audiences love one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member Gilbert 43 tweeted last Tuesday.Barr 65 has apologized for her comments and suggested she was under the influence of the sleeping medication Ambien during her late-night tweets. The cancellation of Roseanne which was rebooted in March after more than two decades off the air came hours after comedian Wanda Sykes a consulting producer on the series announced she would not be returning. Actress Emma Kenney tweeted that she was also planning on quitting the series when she learned it had been canceled.Meanwhile John Goodman who portrayed Barrs husband on the show Dan Conner opted not to discuss the cancellation in a video obtained by Entertainment Tonight noting hed "rather say nothing than to cause more trouble."
