Suspect in Dep. Bill Brewer's murder allowed to wear civilian clothing in court

BATAVIA, Ohio (WKRC) - The man accused of killing Clermont County Deputy Bill Brewer waived his right to a speedy trial. Wade Winn also requested that he be allowed to wear civilian clothing in court. Winn is accused of ambushing deputies Bill Brewer and Nick DeRose during a standoff at a Pierce Township apartment complex in January. Brewer was killed. DeRose was shot in the leg. Winn's attorneys don't want their client to appear at all of his hearings in jail clothing, in case it would prejudice the jury into forming the opinion that he's already guilty. The judge ruled that Winn can rule civilian clothing in court. The clothing will be searched by sheriff's deputies at the jail before Winn gets dressed. A hearing to discuss whether Winn will have to wear handcuffs or other restraints has been set for April 5. Winn faces 12 counts including attempted aggravated murder. He's being held in jail without bail. Winn could be eligible for the death penalty, if he's convicted.
