Winona Bridge Pile Driving

Winona Bridge Pile Driving

This video shows piles for piers 10 and 11 being driven at the Winona Bridge project. The piles (hollow steel poles) are open-ended on the bottom and have a “cutting shoe” welded on to protect the end of the pipe. Using a diesel-fueled Delmag 125-32 hammer, the piles are driven into the soil until they reach bedrock, which typically takes about an hour to an hour and ten minutes. These 42-inch piles (width) are 80 feet long. Once the piles are driven to bedrock, they are cleaned out and a short rebar cage is placed at the top and partially filled with concrete.
