Are you too young for a hair transplant? Is it a bad decision to undergo a hair transplant at a young age? If so, how young is too young? How long do you need to wait? And are there ways to have a transplant as a young patient without having problems in the future? In this video, Dr Kenneth DiStefano of Feller & Bloxham Medical answers these questions and helps young patients determine if it is safe for them to have a hair transplant. First, Dr DiStefano acknowledges that this is a controversial topic -- and for good reason. In the wrong hands, a transplant on a young patient can become an issue down the road. This is especially true if the hairline is started too low or if the donor area is used inefficiently (IE: big FUE surgeries). However, Dr Distefano goes on to further explain that he does feel comfortable working on young patients as long as certain conditions are met. If these patients understand the importance of a conservative hairline, utilize the donor area as efficiently as possible, and accept that hair loss is progressive and may be advanced in long patients and multiple surgeries may be required, then young patients can successfully undergo hair transplant surgery.
