The Ustaša – Croatian Revolutionary Movement (read as "Ustashe", plural form of Ustaša, a name deriving from a Croatian word for "to rise up"), were an organization founded in Italy in 1929 by Croatian émigrés funded by the Italian Government at the time. For years, the organization was devoted to stirring Croatian nationalist sentiment in the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia. They are infamously known for the successful attempt on the life of King King Alexander I of Yugoslavia. The group's ideology blended a radical form of Catholicism, a strong ethnic sentiment against Serbians, and a desire to unify Croatia and Bosnia under an independent state, with an almost paradoxical tolerance for Bosniak Muslims, who were regarded as "Muslim Croats". In 1941, with the Axis occupation of Yugoslavia, the Ustaše were given the government of the newly formed Independent Croatian State. This was swiftly followed by a major campaign of persecution against Gyps**s, J**s and Serbs, which, in several occasions, were considered too brutal even for the Germans and Italians. The organization was dissolved in 1945, after the Axis defeat, and its leaders, were persecuted by the new powers-that be. Ante Pavelić, their founder and leader, managed to escape to Argentina, where the organization survived via its offshoots until the breakup of Yugoslavia. Pavelić met his demise in 1959 in Madrid, aged 70, from the wounds he had sustained in an assassination attempt. · · ─ · ☩ · ─ · · Year: circa 1941 Composer: Unknown Singer: Slatki San · · ─ · ☩ · ─ · · Lyrics in Croatian: Puška puca a top riče, grmi kao grom, Mlad Ustaša vojak bije za Hrvatski dom. Puška puca krv se lije, dušman bježi klet, A Ustaška hrabra vojska vrši zavjet svet. Tjera smjelo dušmanina, s praga djedovskog, I promiče staru slavu roda Hrvatskog. Puška puca a top riče, barut miriše, Mlad Ustaša na bojištu ranjen izdiše. Ne plaši ga grom pušaka nit' topova jek, Dom, sloboda, vjerna ljubav, rani su mu lijek. Oj Hrvatska zemljo mila, sviće danak tvoj, Sad Ustaška hrabra vojska za te bije boj. · · ─ · ☩ · ─ · · DISCLAIMERS: All songs, footage, and images in this video remain the property of their respective owners.
