Final assault begins against IS in Raqqa as 3,000 civilians evacuate

"IS수도 락까서 민간인 3천명 철수" U.S.-backed forces have launched a final assault to oust Islamic State from the Syrian city of Raqqa, after hundreds of militants fled, leaving just a handful behind. More than three-thousand civilians from the capital of IS' self-proclaimed caliphate evacuated on Saturday under a deal struck between tribal elders and the jihadist group. The city is now said to be clear of all civilians, apart from the families of some three hundred foreign IS fighters that have stayed behind to mount a final stand. In a statement, the Syrian Democratic Forces said they will continue to fight until the whole city is clean of the terrorists.
