This video is about my diagnosis journey of the rare functional neurological disorder which is also called FND. It can be confusing because it can be called different things depending on what country you're in. NEAD (non epileptic attack disorder) or PNES (psychogenic non-epileptic seizures) or conversion disorder. A 72-hour EEG test can confirm a FND diagnosis versus an epilepsy diagnosis. It's speculated that trauma especially PTSD is stored in the body such as described in the book "the body keeps score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk. I had childhood trauma that I had blocked out. I did EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy and was able to remember what happened to me when I was 8. At the age of 40, I received the correct diagnosis of functional neurological disorder. To say that I got a second or third or even 4th opinion is an understatement. I had to fire a lot of neurologists before I found a movement disorder specialist in Round Rock Texas that knew exactly what was wrong and how to treat it. The other reason this disorder is confusing is because it is both a neurological and psychological condition and patients often get passed back and forth from neurology and psychology. At least that was my experience.
