Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1561 - 1621) - psalm 5

Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1561 - 1621) - psalm 5

Martin Mallaun - Zither This is one of the few surviving lute pieces by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. The Sweelinck biographer Frits Noske assumed that the composer probably owned a lute himself and composed this work for his leisure hours. Unfortunately, only seven lute pieces that can definitely be ascribed to Sweelinck have survived to this day: three psalm settings in Thysius Lute Book and four dance movements in Lute Book of Edward, both manuscripts. Martin Mallaun transkribed the piece and set it for his zither in meantone temperament.
