Napoleon Dynamite | You Guys Are “Idiots!” (Hulu R-Word Censorship)

The other day, I was watching Napoleon Dynamite with my little brother and little cousins and I saw it was streaming on Hulu in 4K. Considering the film has never had a physical release in 4K, I was incredibly stoked and decided to check out the transfer. However, when we got to this point of the film where Uncle Rico shows Napoleon and Kip his football video, something threw me off. As us fans know, one of the most well-known lines in the film is: “You guys are (r-word)!” And it was like this on pretty much all releases of the film physically and digitally. But for some reason, Hulu (and I wanna say Disney +) censored the line to: “You guys are idiots!” The only time I ever heard of a line being censored like that is on TV airings of the film, but I never thought it’d be changed on streaming platforms. I’m not sure if other platforms have censored the word as well, but it’s definitely like this on Hulu. Like, I get why they changed it as nowadays, it’s an incredibly offensive word, and considering Napoleon was using it as an insult to Kip and Uncle Rico, I do kind of understand. But it’s just baffling that they changed it completely out of nowhere, and I can’t be the only one that got thrown off by that. Especially for how many times I’ve seen this movie.
