BREAKDOWN: Really like the chords i got on this one... took inspiration from a lot of jazz/neo-soul piano music and I hope yall got the feel... I was going for a vibe like "Melt Session #1" or "Mental" off of MMESYF. In doing this, i made very simple drums (drums I usually use) with a very simple bassline, leaving lots of room for an artist to spit over this. The verse is where the piano chords are extended into a broader progression, really giving the track a more neo-soulful vibe. I added a simple quarter note hat pattern, but i added a lot of effects onto it (as well as a shaker underneath) to give it a wonky feel that provides a structured feel to the looser chords. Beat switch was into a more Boom-Bap inspired half, with the drums to match. Then i flipped the sample and reversed it/chopped it so that it fit back into the track without changing the chord progression. Overall I like this track and If i were to work on one thing in the future it would be to better my ability to create melodies on jazz/neo-soul chords. lmk how to improve and if you want the beat email me or DM me on Instagram... peace.
