World of Aden: Entomorph: Plague of the Darkfall (PC) - Champion Longplay - No Commentary

Here's my longplay of the 1995 Windows 95 game Entomorph: Plague of the Darkfall by SSI. The original disc evidently also had a Windows 3.1 version. This is the GOG version of the game, played through DxWnd to get the music working. I play on Champion difficulty, which is the hardest setting. As far as I can tell, the difficulty changes how much damage the enemies deal and how many hit points they have, not much else. This is the second game in the World of Aden pair of games. It's not a sequel to Thunderscape, it just takes place in the same game universe. I remember seeing this game in stores at the time. I played through a copy of the game a couple of times in the late 90s and remembered it being an interesting game. Getting it to run on modern systems requires some tinkering, even with the current GOG version. To get music running at all, you pretty much have to run it through DxWnd. Even with the setup, sometimes it'll glitch out when starting and you have to close out and go back in again to have it run correctly. For those interested in playing the game yourselves, the instructions in the GOG forum linked here are pretty good and include how to fix the timing glitch in the "bee room" so you don't instantly explode into a pile of gore when you step inside of it: https://www.gog.com/forum/entomorph_p... In this game, you only get to see HP/MP, all other stats are completely hidden from you and there's none of the normal leveling to speak of that you'd get in most other RPG's. There are items that are supposed to increase your strength and other stats, but who knows if most of them are anything other than flavor. For combat, you mostly just punch enemies until they explode, there's no weapon pickups. You do eventually get a ranged attack later in the game. There's also an assortment of magic for attacks, buffs, and healing. The magic has a somewhat interesting system where you adjust how strong each individual spell is by dumping more MP into it to either make it more powerful if it's a single shot attack/heal or make it last longer if it's something that runs over an extended time. There's a lot of story in the game that keeps things interesting as you go through it and a number of side/hidden objectives you can complete for others if you search around. The game world consists of 2 overworld locations. The first location is pretty much the "tutorial zone" that's fairly small and lets you learn the basics of the game. The second location is several times larger and includes a lot of dungeons and interior zones to work through. None of the areas are really complex enough that you have to have a map (the ant/Thelyd hive is the most complex, but even that's not really bad enough to map out). The game can largely be done without a walkthrough, though it can be a little confusing at times to know where you're supposed to go due to the open world nature of the game. They were thankfully taking a lighter approach to the trial-and-error brute force puzzles in this game. The only real brute force puzzles were the bee/Panorpid one for the doors and the oddly confusing mesmerize dialogue in the palace (the solution is pick option 1, 2, 1, 1 no matter what it is). There are a few glitches in the game and it did crash once and lock up another time, so it's good to save often. The sound/music gets a little crusty every now and then for no apparent reason that I could find. It seemed to just as randomly fix itself when there were periods of brief silence. It's a fun game overall, I'm glad I got to play through it again. 0:00:00 Intro sequence 0:02:45 Village of Addegun 0:21:46 Saltmoon in Phoros 0:53:59 Some light jungle exploring 1:05:26 The "Bee house glitch" 1:08:47 Rebel base 1:19:10 Rebel quest starts 1:22:00 White Moth cave 1:28:27 Noble Shrine found (oops) 1:31:01 Thelyd Stronghold found 1:37:25 Return to rebel base 1:40:09 Exploring eastern town + One-Armed Noble 1:55:27 Saltmoon, become citizen 2:07:12 Rebel base 2 2:19:31 Keechda cave part 1 2:28:58 Panorpid Ziggurat found 2:31:31 One-Armed Noble again 2:36:10 Scouting the Thelyd Stronghold 2:57:05 Return to Rebel base 2 2:59:46 Rebel base 3 3:13:42 Back to Rebel base 2 3:16:13 Ziggurat 3:18:40 Panorpid Stronghold 3:43:00 Panorpid Queen 3:55:39 Side cave 4:03:43 Noble Shrine sneak peek 4:09:20 Return to Saltmoon 4:17:35 Noble Shrine again 4:18:17 Great Mutrizzba 4:43:46 Return to Keechda cave 5:08:13 Web Walk located 5:13:36 T'Uthrax zone 5:40:38 Return to Keechda cave again 6:02:46 Hidden refugee cave 6:07:40 Keechda again 6:19:12 Thelyd Stronghold (activate portal) 6:22:48 Return to T'Uthrax 6:28:38 Thelyd Stronghold again 6:40:50 Thelyd Queen 6:53:33 Distillery 7:11:19 Palace 7:45:13 Mez the Muncher 7:47:38 Giant Mutalid 7:53:10 Queen of Phoros 8:02:22 T'Uthrax-Mata 8:06:03 Bad Ending 8:07:16 True Ending & Credits
