M Cars: Mercedes Benz Concept IAA – interior and exterior Concept IAA – Mercedes chose the name quite cleverly. IAA (the model can be found there from September 17th to 27th, 2015) not only stands for “International Automobile Exhibition”, but also, in Stuttgart jargon, for “Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile”. From the luxurious interior to the stunning exterior, this video is a must-watch for any car lover! The trick: As soon as the four-door coupé with its long hood and sloping roof drives faster than 80 km/h or the driver presses a button, the outer shell of the Aero-Benz transforms like in a movie: eight segments extend at the rear, extending it by 39 centimeters. Extendable front flaps improve the airflow, a slat in the front bumper retracts six centimeters, and something is also happening on the rims: the shaped elements become a disc, ensuring as little air turbulence as possible. Voilà, the Transformer is ready! The fact that the concept crouches close to the road with ten centimeters of ground clearance also ensures the perfect airflow. Overall, the study is 5.04 meters long (in aerodynamic mode it is 5.43 meters) and 1.31 meters high. The designers have made the outer shell extra smooth: there are no door handles, instead, the doors are opened using a sensor, and instead of exterior mirrors, cameras take over the view to the rear. As befits an environmentally friendly aerodynamicist, a plug-in hybrid takes over the drive. The system produces 279 hp and drives the flat flounder to a maximum of 250 km/h. The Concept IAA travels up to 66 kilometers purely electrically in aerodynamic mode; without the extended air ladder, it is 62 kilometers.
