🧬 Structure of a Sperm – Class 12 Biology A sperm cell is a haploid male gamete responsible for fertilisation. It has a streamlined structure for motility and consists of four main parts: 📌 1. Head Contains a haploid nucleus with compact DNA. Covered by a cap-like structure called the acrosome. Acrosome contains enzymes like sperm lysins that help the sperm penetrate the egg during fertilisation. 📌 2. Neck Connects the head to the middle piece. 📌 3. Middle Piece Contains 25–30 mitochondria spirally arranged around the axial filament. Mitochondria generate ATP (energy) required for sperm motility. 📌 4. Tail Long and slender. Responsible for the movement of the sperm through the female reproductive tract. 📊 Sperm Count and Quality (Per Ejaculation): About 200–300 million sperm are released. At least: 60% should have normal shape and structure 40% should show vigorous motility This ensures the possibility of successful fertilisation. #sperm #studymotivation #studywithme #education #fertilisation #acrosome
