The Gospel according to Matthew: 25. Heavenly resources are available! (Matthew 7:7-12) It would be easy to feel crushed and overwhelmed by the challenge Jesus presents in the Sermon on the Mount. Especially as in the last few messages, we’ve addressed issues concerning laying up treasure, being anxious, judging others…I mean how can we keep from being anxious in these days? And then you find out that we’re coming now to chapter 7:12 – “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets". This so called golden rule. How can we possible do this? In this sermon, our Pastor and teaching elder, Robert McCollum suggests that the answer to our troubles is found in the verses that come just before v12 - verses 7-11: Christ's teaching on asking, seeking and knocking. That is to say – our ability as Christians to keep this golden rule, and indeed keep any of the rules in the sermon on the mount, our ability to do so is based upon and dependent upon this matter of asking, seeking and knocking. To those of us who are feeling crushed by the commands and standards set out here, or crushed and overwhelmed by the pressures of life, Jesus gently reminds us in these verses of some vital truths.
