The most common symptom of kidney stones is pain, the location of the pain depends on where the kidney stone gets stuck in the urinary system. Parts of the urinary system - kidney, ureter, Urinary bladder, Urethra. Kidneys filter blood and make urine, this urine comes in the ureter and gets stored in the urinary bladder, from where it comes out through the urethra. Most kidney stones are formed in the kidney from where they get broken and got stuck either in the ureter, urinary bladder, or urethra. Symptoms of kidney stone at Ureteropelvic junction - Pain in the flank area Symptoms of kidney stone at upper one-third of the ureter -Pain in flank and lumbar area Symptoms of kidney stone at the middle one-third of the ureter -Pain in front and back of the abdomen. Symptoms of kidney stone at lower one-third of the ureter - Pain in the groin region and radiate to testis in males and the vagina in females. Symptoms of kidney stones at Ureterovesical Junction - Pain in the suprapubic area Symptoms of kidney stones in the urinary bladder - No symptoms or sometimes block the pathway in standing Other symptoms of kidney stones- Burning micturition, unable to hold urine, urine infection, irritation during urination, diarrhea, cramping rectal pain, blood in urine, nausea, vomiting, foul-smelling urine. Causes of Kidney stones - Reduced intake of water, Intake of a diet rich in oxalate food like onion, spinach, beans, Intake of sodium, Intake of animal protein like red meat & shellfish, diseases like Crohn,s disease & ulcerative colitis, some other conditions like obesity, medullary sponge kidney, Diabetes, Gout, Hyperparathyroidism, Renal tubular acidosis, Some antibiotics like ciprofloxacin, anti-HIV drugs, diuretics.
