Today we're playing In the Heart of Calamity & Vortex of Fury. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✒ GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME: In 1997, Dynasty Warriors was released on the PlayStation, the first installment in Koei Tecmo's famous hack 'n' slash series, which to date includes nine main games and numerous spin-offs. Since they are primarily developed by Koei Tecmo's subsidiary Omega Force, all titles are based on a similar gameplay principle: the player must navigate a segmented map full of enemies, conquering enemy bases, collecting items, and fighting boss battles. Although the gameplay is fairly simple, it enjoyed great popularity in Japan, which is why collaborations with several domestic companies emerged in the following years, which made their characters available for a crossover game. These include Gundam, Fist of the North Star, and since 2012 even the best-selling manga One Piece. On December 18, 2013, even the conservative Nintendo announced that they would make their The Legend of Zelda brand available for a collaboration. Under the name "Hyrule Warriors," the project was finally released in Japan on August 14, 2014, and worldwide a month later. In addition to Omega Force, Team Ninja, which originally came up with the idea for the crossover, also participated in the development. While a large number of DLC packs were released initially, the game was re-released in early 2016 under the name "Hyrule Warriors: Legends" for the much more popular Nintendo 3DS. This release featured new content and a newly created female counterpart to Link, Linkle. The title was finally provisionally completed on March 18, 2018, when it was released under the name "Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition" on Nintendo's new hit console, the Nintendo Switch. Although both titles achieved modest success among Nintendo fans, they were nevertheless eluded by a major success. This changed on September 8, 2020, when Nintendo suddenly shared the announcement trailer for a spiritual Hyrule Warriors sequel on its social media channels, which became known as "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity." It was presented as a kind of prequel to the smash hit "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and was intended to explore the events of 100 years ago during the time of the Great Calamity. Not only did the team use the same visuals as Breath of the Wild, but they also received active support from Nintendo's Zelda team itself, who played an active role in the development process that went beyond their involvement in the original Hyrule Warriors. The connection to the already established Breath of the Wild universe proved to be a huge success: Shortly after its release on November 20, 2020, the game sold three times as much as the Wii U version did in its entire life cycle. In addition to the four heroes, Link, and Zelda, several new character designs were also shown in advance, including young versions of Impa, Purah, and Robelo, as well as the newly developed mage Astor.
