Can the Government Force You to Advocate for Abortion?

Pregnancy centers and medical clinics exist to offer women hope, help, and a real choice in what can be the hardest moment of their lives. But in the State of California, these pro-life groups were forced to advocate for abortion. No matter your position on abortion, we should all agree that the government should not have the power to force people to speak a message that contradicts their deeply held beliefs. ADF filed suit on behalf of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) and two affiliated pregnancy centers, and took the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. There, the Court ruled that enforcement of the law against pro-life groups was an unconstitutional attempt to compel speech that cuts to the very core of the First Amendment. Free speech is important for everyone, not just for those who happen to hold political power. The sooner we relearn that critical truth, the better off our country will be.
